The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - created by Kelvin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984 (the year that i was born!!!).
Story:
Splinter was formerly a human being, an honorable ninja master named Hamato Yoshi. Yoshi was banished from his clan after being deceived by the malicious Oroku Saki, who put a knife into the back of Yoshi's dogi, preventing him from kneeling before their sensei, which was seen as an insult. When Yoshi removed the knife, the sensei was again insulted, believing Yoshi was drawing the blade in opposition to him. Exiled from the ninja clan, Hamato Yoshi moves to New York and lives in the sewers.
Then, four turtles came to Yoshi before being exposed to the mutagen. One day, Yoshi returned from his explorations around New York to find the turtles covered by mutagen. The mutagen caused the turtles- most recently exposed to Yoshi- to become human while Yoshi- most recently exposed to sewer rats- became a humanoid rat. Each ninja turtle wore a mask over his eyes having a distinctive color, carried and used a distinctive weapon, and had a favorite flavor of pizza. The color of each turtle's mask was the favorite color of each of the turtles, and also to some degree reflects their personalities.
Leonardo (or "Leo"), a fictional character, is the unofficial leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His mask is blue (his favorite color), and his weapons are two katanas (大刀, a Japanese sabre). He is named after Leonardo da Vinci, the famous Renaissance artist and inventor.
Leonardo takes after his sensei Splinter and takes ninjitsu very seriously. He is the closest to Splinter and spends most of his free time in practice and meditation. Leonardo has a strong sense of honor and he is a strict follower of the Bushido code.
Donatello (or "Don"), a fictional character, is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His mask is purple (his favorite color), and his weapon is a bo (六尺棒 , a long wooden stick). He is named after Donatello, the famous Renaissance artist.
Donatello is something of a geek. He is good with technology and he invents many of the gadgets used by the other team members. He is the most introspective and most nonviolent of the brothers, preferring to use his mind and intellect to find a solution to a problem. Accordingly, his weapon is less lethal than those of his brothers.
Michelangelo (or "Mikey"), a fictional character, is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His mask is orange (his favorite color), and his weapons are nunchucks (雙節棍, a weapon set consisting of two sticks connected at their ends with a short chain or rope) (variously either one or two pair). He is named after Michelangelo Buonarroti, the famous Renaissance artist.
Michaelangelo is generally happy-go-lucky, and had a fondness for pizza beyond even that of his teammates. He is often referred to as a "Party Dude", which, though somewhat accurate, accounts for only part of his persona.
Raphael (or "Raph"), a fictional character, is one of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His mask is red (his favorite color), and he carries two sai (an unsharpened dagger, but it also has two long, unsharpened projections (tsuba) attached to the handle). He is named after Raffaello Santi, the famous Renaissance artist.
His personality is usually aggressive or sullen.
